Garfield is the sweetest boy there is. He loves naps, cuddles, long walks, lounging on the couch, meeting new friends, and being wherever his people are. While he certainly has his playful moments and enjoys a good zoomie session, most of the time he's a sweet affectionate companion who is down to go with the flow and join you in whatever your day has in store. Garfield is a little ball of energy with an even bigger heart.
He has settled into his foster home routine super quickly and has shown himself to be a very smart, adaptable, and loving dog. He is eager to learn and responds well to praise and affection. He picks up on training cues quickly and enjoys engaging with his humans.. Garfield has a great balance of playful and adventurous and laid-back personality. He will happily join you on the long walks along the west side highway, your favorite outdoor dining patio, adventures on he subway, or nestle up while you work from home or want a couch potato for movie night.
Garfield has been friendly and playful with every human, other dogs, as well as kids. He walks well on the leash overall, with some mild pulling for a good sniff or when he wants to decide the direction, but is easily corrected. He is curious and enjoys exploring both indoors and outdoors. Around the house, he likes to stay involved in whatever is going on, whether that's supervising meal prep from the kitchen floor or following people from room to room ... all while loving any visitors in the home and being completely potty trained.
He prefers to join you everywhere you go, have a sitter, or people in the home. The only time he has barked was when he is left alone, so he does need to learn to be comfortable when his humans leave the house. With some time for him to settle in and feel secure, he should be able to adjust and understand that humans return and theres nothing to get anxious about.
He is not bothered by neighbors in the hallway, stairs, trucks, skateboards or busy streets... a real city boy.
Above all, Garfield is a sweetheart who will win your heart from Day 1 with his kind eyes, wagging tail and bis smile.
Garfield is approximately 1y 2m 24d old and is fully grown at 54 pounds. They are microchipped and up to date on all age-appropriate medical care. Their breed is unknown as we have not had a DNA test done.
Although our dogs are listed as unknown breed, buildings with specific dog restrictions typically enforce their rules based on what breeds a dog appears to resemble. It's always important to keep that in mind and know your building's policies before adopting a dog.

Most adult dogs do well with 30-60 minutes of walking a day plus play and sniffing time.
Ask the rescue about leash manners, elevator and stair comfort, alone-time tolerance, and whether the dog settles in a small space.
